FYI the Scholastic Book Fair still exists! I remember it from childhood (I had to miss my first one due to a virus and was devastated, until my brother brought me a book he bought for me), and as a teacher it’s still fun, watching all the kids shopping. Thanks for the memory, and recipe!!
Oh Ben this sounds like a hug and I hope it was as great as always. I have been making Nigella Lawson's Chocolate Cheesecake recipe for decades from when she had a show on E or Style? - Nigella Bites. It costs about $40 in the ingredients alone and lots more ingredients and steps but worth all the time and effort and a great birthday gift. I'm adding your recipe for when I want a quick easy treat. I was cracking up at the thought of having a sore throat and wanting decadent chocolate cheesecake! It makes perfect sense to us chocolate cheesecake lovers. Glad you are better.
I didn’t think I could love the Crappens guys any more than I did, but now Ben is offering up a failproof chocolate cheesecake recipe. Try to get rid of me now.
Absolutely you can do by hand. I will amend the recipe to say that. You’ll be more likely to get white specks but that’s merely an aesthetic thing. Just tell people it’s a “Speckled chocolate cheese cake.”
Dumping cheesecake batter into a store bought Oreo pie crust is pure genius - just like those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books from the Scholastic Book Fair circa 1983
Two take aways from this post. 1) I LOVE that the Scholastic Book Club was your favorite time of the school year. I actually got more excited for Scholastic Book delivery day then I did for Girl Scout cookies delivery day. And 2) you are my dessert spirit animal because I proudly take the maximum amount of my homemade but untouched dessert home with me to enjoy later that night - instead of leaving it with the party host for her to feed to her own family. Are there any photos you could share of 2nd grade Ben in the kitchen making his chocolate creations from the Chocolate Heaven book??
